Reviewing upper cervical X-rays during a new patient exam in Huntsville, AL

What the new patient exam includes

The new patient visit covers everything you need on your first two appointments: the consultation, a neurological and orthopedic exam, Blair Analysis X-rays, and the report of findings on your second visit. We are a cash, self-pay practice, so you always know your cost up front, and self-pay patients save when paying at time of service.

  • New patient consultation

  • Cash / self-pay pricing, with HSA and FSA cards welcome

What happens at your first visit

Your first visit runs about 45 to 60 minutes. You will fill out a short health history, then sit down one-on-one with Dr. R. S. Porter to talk through what is bothering you and what you have already tried. We check your reflexes, muscle strength, range of motion, and joint function, and do a postural analysis.

For adult patients, we take Blair Analysis X-rays of your atlas (C1) and axis (C2) from angles built around your anatomy. You will not be adjusted on day one, because we study your images first. On visit two, the report of findings, Dr. Porter walks you through the images, explains what he sees, and lays out a care plan. Your first adjustment happens here, if you are a good fit.

Why Blair Analysis X-rays are different

Standard chiropractic X-rays take a couple of flat shots from set angles. Blair imaging works differently: we measure your skull and neck first, then take images at angles built around your unique bone shape. Every person's atlas sits at a slightly different tilt, so a one-size shot can miss the real problem.

That precision matters because it shows the exact spot to work on, so each adjustment can hold longer and trim your visit count over time.

Using HSA or FSA for chiropractic care

Chiropractic care is an IRS-qualified medical expense, so your HSA or FSA card works at Functional Chiropractic for the exam, imaging, and adjustments. Paying with pre-tax dollars effectively stretches your budget.

A note on how we handle payment: we are a cash, self-pay practice, so we do not bill or accept insurance. You pay directly at time of service, which keeps pricing simple and up front.

Is the exam different for kids or during pregnancy?

Pediatric exams skip the X-rays unless a clear injury calls for them. The visit is gentler, shorter, and focused on posture and movement. Pregnant patients work with us under the Webster Technique, which focuses on pelvic alignment, with a thorough check and imaging only if it is genuinely needed.

Who tends to do well here

We are a strong fit for people dealing with migraines and chronic headaches, vertigo or balance issues, post-concussion symptoms, TMJ tension, or long-standing neck pain that other approaches have not resolved. If Blair is not the right path for you, we will say so on day one and point you toward a chiropractor in Huntsville who fits your needs better. No pressure, no upsell.
